Johnny MacCracken's Celtic Firehouse Pub opened near the Marietta Square in the oldest standing firehouse in Cobb County. When the original hundred+ year old firehouse was retired as a working firehouse, it became a bank and later a travel agency. The bank's vault has now been converted to a storage area for the beer. I think a good use of a vault if ever I heard one. With 5,000 square feet on two-levels, the beautiful interior has the original stone floors and leaded glass windows. The several dining areas, complete with tartan tablecloths, in some fireplaces, and possibly even sofas and comfortable chairs create a cozy atmosphere. Plans for a second floor 'bell tower' was being discussed, but Gary Leake, the owner, is considering making it into a bed and breakfast, an event facility or a fine dining area. The pub serves low-country-type cooking with a full Celtic heritage of not only meat and potatoes but also fish, lamb stew and Shepherd's pie. Price ranges from $6.95 - $8.95. Monday night is Mike-Night, where patrons are encouraged to bring their musical instruments and perform. The best-of-the-best are asked to return for a paying gig. Wednesday nights is contemporary duet night and Thursday & Friday nights are live Blue Grass. Drop Gary a line and let him know your favorite choices and local groups.
